The historic William E. Carter Playground, owned by the City of Boston, was officially re-opened by Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh and Northeastern President Joseph E. Aoun in early 2019. Northeastern, through an agreement with the City of Boston, committed $108 million to renovations and maintenance of the 6.5-acre state-of-the-art park. It features two full-length fields, five tennis courts and a “tot lot” with equipment for children with all abilities that was dedicated to graduate Victoria McGrath, who was injured in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and died in a tragic accident overseas in 2016.
